Get your hands dirty and your creativity flowing with SC4 at Summer Clay Camp, a two-day ceramics experience designed for curious creators entering grades 5–8! Led by artist and SC4 professor Jacob Vinson, this hands-on camp introduces students to the dynamic world of ceramics—where art, science, and imagination collide. Campers will explore a variety of ceramic techniques, from hand-building textured mugs and painting tiles to getting their hands on the potter’s wheel. Along the way, they’ll learn about kilns, glazing, and the fascinating transformation clay undergoes in the firing process. With plenty of studio time and a fun mix of demonstration, discussion, and making, each camper will come away with unique creations and a solid foundation in the ceramic arts. No experience necessary.

Learn the tips, tricks, tools and techniques to take the mystery out of drawing. This camp introduces learners to the fundamentals of drawing, including skills used by accomplished artists. Emphasis is placed on understanding how to see the way artists see. We will have a discussion on right brain/left brain characteristics and how to promote right brain connection. Learners will do exercises in upside down drawing, shading, basic unit, and sighting. Previous drawing experience is not required. Campers will be taught the fundamentals of applying watercolor paint, mixing color, and how to create a range of values (light and dark). The learners will work on a guided landscape painting and then will work on their own painting with guidance from instructors. Previous experience in watercolor painting is not required.
